Joseph Ostraff
I was so impressed with Joseph, not only is he an experience traveler but a great Professor and even better person. Joseph shared many beliefs and perspectives that have been truths to me all along. One of the most important things we can do in this life is take the opportunity to make connections. I was intrigued by the different customary greetings he spoke on and allowed us to view in his presentation. The intimate Hongi greeting that native New Zealanders practice was very different than any greeting I’ve ever seen. I thought there was something very special about this ritual. It makes me sad that communication has become so digital and impersonal it was refreshing to see this important tradition still being practiced. I also enjoyed the merry-go-round video, a great example that you can see something from seemly the same perspective but be in totally different places. I thought his lecture was relevant and well thought out, would love to have spent more time with him! I thought this was a great depiction of the Hongi in a real world setting, Prince Charles taking after his mother in addressing the relief effort after the New Zealand earthquake.
